I’m a graduate of Polish Art School, I used to draw & paint since I remember. Usually I use charcoal, oil pastels or oil on canvas.”

Art has been an inseparable part of my soul, I began painting at the age of 5. I love creating artworks based on naked figure studies and portraits, I am drawn towards the natural naked true self we all have within us. I’ve experimented with a variety of mediums, my favorite being charcoal and watercolor for the ease of carrying it anywhere and making quick figure studies. My favorite artists are Daniel Maidman, Michael Mentler, Richard Ehiemua and Casey Baugh.”

A fairytale on paper

THE ARTIST SAYS:

profile.jpg“I am proudly self taught and started drawing at an early age. Encouraging parents fueled my need for expression. Once in high school I excelled in art and dreamed of continued studies in college. After graduating I married and went to work helping raise my three children. Working for a marketing firm I drew a concept design that achieved national recognition. After that I continued to draw and paint until the eighties when I joined and art league and entered a national juried show which my work was accepted. Encouraged by my family and friends I decided to enter shows and fairs winning many entries and turning professional in the eighties I sold many of my creations. Most of my ideas for my art come from dreams.
Pen, pencil and acrylic are my preferred mediums but I’ve tried them all. I love the creative process and am continually creating fantasy landscapes and seascapes or space concepts in my home studio. Currently retired I’m still working on my art daily”.

I studied Art and Design in my A levels, but worked mostly on my own. I have sold a few pieces and have a few available as well, both on my instagram and facebook, but since I’m particularly fascinated by hyper and photo realism, the rate at which I produce my work can be low”.

My three young children are my world, and my paintings are inspired by lots of light and colorful scenes. After surviving a dark childhood, I now spend time creating to relieve stress and focus on positivity. I’m drawn to realism, surrealism, and fantasy art styles which allow bold, bright creations that my children and I can enjoy together. My art is now in homes from Alaska to England, and I’m grateful for offers in local galleries for shows next year. Thank you for the opportunity to share my art on CHROMA”.

30232544_2016512091934082_1217164226_o“I am a self taught portrait and animal artist based in Manchester, UK. At a young age I began experimenting with art (I come from a very artistic family, so art was always a large part of my life), but quickly found myself overwhelmed with education and jobs. Because of this I went through a 7 year period of not drawing, not painting, not even thinking about art. It was only 2 years ago that I picked up my pencils again and decided to make a career out of my artwork. I now work as a freelance artist and couldn’t ask for a better job. Art, for me, is just like meditation, it relaxes and helps clear my head of any day to day stresses and I honestly couldn’t imagine a world without it. I mainly draw in chalk and charcoal but am starting to experiment with oil paints.”

I’m from Montreal, Canada, and like so many others I’ve been drawing since I could hold a pen. Doesn’t mean I was good! But I kept practicing, practicing, and practicing even more. I am in love with Acrylic painting at the moment but I’m always thrilled to try new mediums.”

BETH – 2

19/03/2018

After being on holidays and missing my life drawing classes for two weeks I was happy to be back and get my charcoal and papers again! To my disappointment, in absence of a new model, our tutor had to invite the same girl we had a few weeks ago. However, she did a new pose for us and that was a good opportunity for me to practice despite working on a familiar body.

29386770_172562676878498_3867305170270420992_o

Another benefit of having the same model is that we can now compare my progress after a couple of classes (see work from previous classes with Beth here: BETH). I believe it is really helpful to quickly sketch the outline of the body and pay some attention to maintaining correct proportions and making sure things align as they should do (finding relationships between parts of the body and ensuring the are drawn roughly in the right place).

Once we have this first draft-structure on our paper we can then go back and start taking more precise measurements and check if the angles of what we have drawn are correct. In my point of  view is much easier to spot a mistake when you actually have something drawn on your paper rather than trying to guess where things go.

  1. Draw it
  2. Review it
  3. Correct it

I acknowledge that my face sketching skills need loads of improvement so in Monday’s class I made sure I spent about 10 minutes sketching the models face. The results as expected are not amazing. However, that was a good start and the face I created…looks like a face! I ll be working on faces the following months! Here are pictures from the class:

“I recently decided to attend Life Drawing classes; all the work produced during these classes can be found in this collection.

The sketches here are not necessarily finalised pieces of work; this is not my intention anyway. This collection mainly aims to provide with a timeline showing how my work improves as I attend more and more classes. Hopefully, building up experience and skill will be reflected on the quality of my sketches.”

I paint for paintings sake , it draws me in, I can’t live without it. Theres’s something about the painting of people’s portraits that truly intrigues me , to capture their essence , their souls on canvas/paper is the most technically challenging of subjects but also the one of the most rewarding .”

SARAH

26/02/2018

Tonight we had a new model; a middle aged woman, Sarah. She had a really thin and delicate figure and she mainly did poses on a chair. After 3 short poses of 5-10 min each we ended up with her sat on a stool. From my point of view there was a clear view of her face, breast and lap.

Also, today I managed to work a bit faster and finish the main shapes of her body on time allowing myself some time to experiment with tone! Here are the results:
