About

Iasonas Bakas

Iasonas Bakas is an abstract minimalist based in Bath, UK. Born and raised in Greece, he brings a sense of his native Mediterranean openness and human centric logic to his work.

His art is based on research and wide reading, experimentation and a structured process of development. Drawing inspiration from product design, architecture and graphic design, Bakas marries the traditional processes of drawing and oil painting with contemporary themes, colour palettes and interpretative representation.

Artist’s statement

Looking for calmness within structure, interest within simplicity and elegance within creativity Bakas weaves a remarkable artistic narrative through his abstract minimalistic work.

By using carefully considered colour palettes and drafting balanced geometrical compositions, he creates an opportunity for the viewers to feel internally in sync with his work. Although allowing this feeling of serenity to govern is comforting, Bakas often chooses to initiate a conversation by introducing a highly contrasting element to the frame.

For his abstract shapes and linework, he uses simple methods to cunningly surprise the viewer while creating compositions that are simultaneously engaging and soothingly familiar.

Drawing inspiration from product design, architecture and graphic design Bakas proposes a fresh approach on how the well-established principles of minimalism can be applied and interpreted. Developed on a foundation of research, wider reading and experimentation, his works marry the breadth of opportunity created by abstract art with the fundamentals of architectural design and creative interiors.
